Skis on Highlanders or SuperSTOLs?

Post by SuperFly »

What brand and or models of skis are guys using on the Highlander? Any one with them on SuperSTOLs? Straight Skis? Wheel Penetration Skis? More just for curiosity than anything. Its been kinda nice not having to plow snow this year, but Im curious for the future... Seems a neat challenge.

Thanks,

Ben

Good question Ben. I have been wondering the same. I did manage to find one youtube video of a Super Stol on skis. Looks like it's in Canada and may be homemade skis. Wondering if skis are not ideal for the SS due to its suspension/gear system, or maybe it doesn't matter much?

Jack Leroux in Ontario, Canada has his Highlander on Federal 1500 straight skis, but he lives on a lake so wheel penetrating skis are not necessary in his case. Here are a couple of videos...

I've been using wheel penetration skis for 3 winters now on my Highlander in Michigan. This winter started out great but turned warmer in late January and February. My Skis were purchased from Summit Aircraft in Colorado. Mike was great helping me get things set up. He designed a custom bracket for the standard Highlander gear. It literaly takes 10 minutes to put them on or take them off.

I use Federal 1500s and really like them. If you can get away with straight skis go for it!

Gary,

Does summit have a bracket for the heavy-duty highlander gear (the three-leg ones)?

Dane,
I know he has sold the skis to other Highlander owners. I'd call him and check. He had never done a Highlander before mine so I sent him one of my gear legs and he designed the bracket.
