Jumped in and bought a modified Escapade!

Post by scubarider »

   Took the leap of faith and put a downpayment on the Escapade with Tony from Just Aircraft.  I have to sell me Quicksilver Sport 2S in order to buy the Rotax 912ULS that I want.  So if anyone knows of someone looking for a possible Experimental Ligh Sport two seat ultralight please let them know.  Here is a pic of the plane.  I trust I will be coming to this forum numerous times for help in building.  I look forward to your comments.
Thanks!
Dennis

Sorry, meant Troy.  We took another trip over to the Just Aircraft and Troy gave us a ride in the Escapade off that nice runway of theirs.      Was Great!  Still can't sleep waiting for the kit to be ready.  Troy gave me the instructional manual.  So have some reading to do.  Hope everyone has a wonderful New Year!

Hey Dennis,

Glad to hear that you're excited about your kit.  It is a lot of fun to build.

I am anxious to fly off of that strip at the factory someday but it has got to be gutwrenching the first couple times.

Keep us updated when you get your kit.

Dennis,
Congrats on ordering the kit!
I just picked mine up 12/9. Troy flew
out & back in the Escapade for a demo.
The 3 friends that went with me (two are
current, one is a former pilot) to pick up the
kit were standing there with their mouths
open when Troy left out solo. Too funny!
He put on a good show for us.
Another friend (pilot & builder) just helped
me level the frame to set the horizontal stab
incidence.
I will be installing the rudder controls next.
I had the flu last week, so there were a few
days when I didn't even go to the garage.
I had no idea about the build time, but it
seems to be going pretty quickly.
One thing that helped a lot, has been going
to factory to volunteer to work on the builder
assist planes. It really took a lot of the magic
out of the build process. I will make other trips
down there as other questions come up.
Keep in touch & good luck!

John
There are many things that happen really fast when you are
flying an airplane. There is no sense in rushing any of the others.

I would much rather be looking down at the runway, than up at it.

I am hoping that I will get my kit in a couple weeks.  The trip to Troy is only a little more than an hour so I bet I will be burning up the road between me and them several times in the building process.  I know it is further from Brevard.  I hope that as you go along in your building you keep us up to date on your progress and any problems faced so us behind you can learn
Will let you know when I go pick up the kit!

p.s.  I say it is a modified Escapade because I added several of the mods on the highlander to the escapade.  I guess it will be a hybrid ;o)

What modifications did you go with?  I am convinced that the escapade with the conventional gear is a beautiful airplane.

I was thinking that I'd love to see an escapade with the rotec radial, uncowled, and nice big wheel pants.  what a classic it would be.  Will you be the first?  Paint it up like the old mail planes.  cool.

I will be adding the extended wing, the gull doors, will be fabricating wheel pants, thicker plexi for the windshield etc, and will be painting her with a three color sunburst theme.  I have a friend who has a machine shop and works with fiberglass also.  He told me he could make anything that I could dream up!
