(07) Buttercup Leading Edge ( Mike )
Hey Guys,
Gathering material to start this Stage... I bought a Sheet 4ft X 10ft of .032 - 6061-T6 Aluminum
I'll be using that to make the Channels that run the full length of the leading edge.
and I'll be making the Rib shapes out this material too...
I ordered two rolls of leading edge material - 2024-T3 from ACS P/N 03-30850
Comes 12in wide or 18in wide....I ordered 18in X 12ft , They were $48.75 ea
"BUT" this stuff is only .016 ( calls for .020 )
So I'll be watching to see if this will need a packing foam injected into the empty compartments of the
leading edge...
I already got my pieces cut and the angles bent for the Hinge bracket that fits inside the
leading edge Channel .... But I'll wait on building those until my Channel is Formed
that way I'll get a perfect fit-up...
OK, That's it for now...
Gotta Fly...

PS I ordered 14ft of 1/2 X .035 Chromemoly for the Flap/leading edge control tubes....
They weren't on the material list... I told ACS to cut them at 3ft 6in ea

Leading Edge "channels"
Hey Guys,
I cut off a piece of my Sheet of 6061T6... I used a straight edge and my new "Nibbler"
I cut off enough to shear two pieces 9ft 3in X 6.25 in ( 6.25 is the "Stretch Out" for bending my Channel )
The Channels look perfect.... A Buddy of mine made them to my dimensions ...
Here's some pictures...

Form Blocks
Hey Guys,
I made some "Form Blocks" for the rib sections in the Leading edge....
I made two.... It will help hold the Rib piece better , also some have to be "reversed" on the Ends of the leading edge...
I might reverse more just for strength , instead of having them all the same way...
I got my Leading edge material today.... I'm not going to unroll it until I need to use it...

Hey Guys,
I have the Ribs Riveted to the Channel.... I made 12 Ribs one way , and 12 opposite
This way they should be stronger...

Hinges
Hey Guys,
I've got the Wing hinge ready to mount before I drill the Pivot Hole...
The tabs that the hole gets drilled into were made to the dimensions... But there just too long.
Once I figure where the hole goes , I'll trim them down...

Hinges
Hey Guys,
I mounted the "Leading Edge" Hinges on the Front spar....
Something I didn't understand before was ...Why they have the Pivot point "Tab" so big???
I'll have to trim them all up later... I took a picture of the aprox position of the hole/pivot point.
Looks like I need to make the arm assembly that fits into the leading edge next.
Here's some pictures...

Here's a picture of the Leading Edge Pivot Arms... They also have the pivot tabs too long...

Leading Edge pivot arms
I've got the Leading Edge clamped into it's position... I've marked where to slot the Channel to clear the
Leading Edge Pivot Arm... Once I cut that out.... I can start fitting the Hinge assy into the Channel before welding...

Hinge/ Control brace
Hey Guys,
Since I fudged the Ailerons towards the Flaps.... I needed to fudge the control brace on the Leading Edge
Hinge assy.... It's supposed to be 2 1/4" from the end of the angle.... I've got it at 2"
I think my control rod will end up straight now....
The inboard Hinge assy can stay like it is....

Control Arms for Leading Edge
Hey Guys,
After tracing the Leading Edge Control Arm from the print....
I layed out the angle of the flaps... ( 35 degrees MAX ) and found the "Throw" wasn't enough.
I started to look at it a little closer , and found that I liked it aprox. one inch longer....
That seemed to match the drawing of the leading edge better....
Instead of making the control arm longer.... I made it more adjustable...
I put three holes in it.... and because I made it longer , I made it out of thicker material ( .071 )
I think this will work out great...
