Lycoming 0-235 L2C
Holy Cow... I found an Engine.... A guy offered it at a Bargin Price.
I found it on Barnstormers... The guy had an ad.... But he didn't reply right away...
So I placed a "WANTED" ad ( free under 100 letters )
The next morning... the guy I wrote to made the great offer... and I bought the engine...
( It was a 4 hr drive to Iowa.... 1/2 hr to load it and pay for it.... 4 hrs back to Mpls. )
But I had other people calling me and writing me about a whole bunch of other 0-235 engines...
You might keep that in mind when "YOUR" looking for an engine....
.
.
Here's some pictures of bringing my "Baby" home....

More Pictures
Here's a few more pictures...
Also... He threw in the Spinner and base plate....
The engine came out of a Cessna 152 ( 1,520 hrs )
It has a Dynafocal engine mount... I like this better...

Re: Lycoming 0-235 L2C ( Mike )
I made the dynafocal mount fit my landing gear on my Buttercup.
I bolted the gear back on the Jig , Used it to hold the engine mount in the exact position...
I tried the mount by putting it on the engine , While the engine was hanging from the rafters...
Once things fit good , Welded everything... and put the gear back on the plane...
Then mounted the engine....
Gotta Fly...

Nice! I was trying to find an O-235-L2C to do a low time engine swap for my 152 but nothing ever panned out. Maybe I should try again.

Hi Sean,
Can you just imagine how this Buttercup is going to perform with this engine..... Wow...
I've bought my Prop from Craig "Catto"..... it's a Climb Prop - 66" X 46
I should be good for LSA

Looks like I forgot to post about the Exhaust Pipes...
During the hook-up of Carb Heat and Cabin Heat we'll get real close to them.
.
Here's some pictures of the Air box I'm making.
I got some pictures of one that gave me a good idea how to make one.
Notes:
This hangs on the Engine... Keep it Close , Keep it light, Keep it simple.
.
the Guy gave me a Tip.... Be sure you can get to the Carb Nuts,,,.
.
.
.
So, Cold air or Warm...Small and Light , Reach the Nuts for tightening and safety ?
Here we go , I measured a strip of aluminum to make a tube,
I want the "Scat" to go at this Angle towards the Exhaust pipes
The angle also allows the "Rocking" of the engine on the scat tubing
When I rolled the Aluminum piece... It only goes so far.
I wrote on it with a Marker...then Tied a Wire around it and heated it until the marker disappeared
This gives the Aluminum a new start , and can be formed again..
Making a nice tube.

After I guess where it goes , I tack welded it in place.
After Bolting it up , I see I need to slant it more.
This put a large opening on the back side.
I could have just welded the Gap , instead I cut a small piece of aluminum
and rolled it...fit it.
It looks like it cleaned up good.

Today was messed up at first...
My Flap sides were supposed to be bent the opposite way...
Reminds me about the Guy in Alabama they called the Aluminum Butcher...
.
Mine was a small piece I had that I was going to TRY to make it work...
Since then , I'm back to paper mock-up...
The Bottom skin needs better fit...
It slides in place last ... Safety wire ?

I got the paper mock-up converted to Aluminum...
another time the keystock in the lower die helped with a tight bend (Fades to a point)
I put some gussets on each side of the Box.
I left them long to help hold the cable in place.
I got the bottom cover to interlink with the Box , I still need to make sure it can't back out...
Maybe just a small safety wire will do it.

I have met the demands...
The bottom cover slides in place last... It has a spring clip that keeps it in-place.
.
I've kept it light and simple...

Hey Guys,
.
After Paper Mock-ups and more paper mock-ups ... I was able to get an idea about the structure needed to hold the Brass screen.
.
Those Nibblers work great... I smear the cutting area with a lube for better cutting (It shows in the picture)

Re: Lycoming 0-235 L2C
Hey Guys,
More pictures of my Filter "Structure"...
After this Box is "Fitted" to the intake box...only framework will be left.
It will be stronger than making the framework from 10 pieces of aluminum or brass angle
I will make the Filter an easy "Clip-On"... Using High Tensile strength BANDING MATERIAL...
Same material used in the Base cover.

Hey Guys,
I've got it cleaned up enough for the next step...
I'm ready to make it clip in place.

Re: Lycoming 0-235 L2C
Captains Log..... Hard to get ANYTHING done on the plane during the Holiday season...
All I know is the rear "Clip" is next...
It's job is to secure the framework "UP and BACK"...
I've got the placement figured out...
Waiting for things to SETTLE DOWN...
The snow clean-up also demands a lot of my time... ( 1/2 mile driveway )
Happy New Year !
