I beams in

Post by KevinC »

They went in with ease.  Polished everything well first then cleaned out the spars with a rag & a lite coat of oil.  I marked the outside of the spar with a sharpie for rotation, plus the I-beam for depth and rotation.  I used a chunk of schedule 40 pvc pipe with a couple of notches for the I-beam web, marked at 24 and 32 inches.  Viola, they went right in.  Tomorrow night is powder coat clean-up night for the lift strut attach brackets.

Thanks to all who gave advice on this one.  I thought it would be tough - hope the rest goes this way.

Hey Kevin!
I'm sure I will feel not so smart after your
answer, but what is the 24 & 32 for? I remember
Lynn showing me Just's pusher pipe, but I thought
the different marks were for the Highlander
vs. the Escapade wing.

Please clarify.

Later!

There are many things that happen really fast when you are
flying an airplane. There is no sense in rushing any of the others.

I would much rather be looking down at the runway, than up at it.

Ok, John, you freaked me....

The 24 and 32 are for the insertion depth for the front or rear I-beams in the spar.  I don't remember which is which, but the manual is correct this time.  I realized this morning when I read your post that I was working from an escapade manual and was worried that I'd just messed up - so I called Troy.  The lift strut attach bracket moves out with the Highlander wing - so it is in the same place (relative to the I-beam).

Sorry!

Kevin,
I didn't mean to scare you.
I just couldn't remember why there
were two different measurements.
I've gotten to go fly the last two days,
so I still haven't had a chance to
look it up.
Bummer ay?

I'm wondering if to notch the I-beams on both ends? I.E: to aide in wing spar flexion, or if they ever have to come out.
