Alaska Superstol build
Hello all,
Guess it's time for an introduction. I'm Keith Showalter from Anchorage AK. I just picked up my Superstol kit at the factory yesterday and will be building it in North Carolina at Rob Pedersen's Plane Fun hanger on the east coast. I'll try to post some pictures to keep you all updated.
Keith.

Hi Keith! Welcome. Im sure Rob will keep you steered in the right direction, but use the search function a lot on here, and post any other questions you come up with. Good to have you aboard, enjoy your build.
Btw, turn the trailer over, you'll get much better fuel mileage!

Re: Alaska Superstol build
I am looking forward to you posting your progress. I am contemplating building a SuperSTOL, and getting to see your progress will be helpful in my decision.

Today we got the shop cleaned up and everything sorted out. Started building at 2pm, so far we've got the I-beams installed, torque tubes installed and ribs are riveted. Tomorrow we'll put the skins on.

Re: Alaska Superstol build
We put the wing skins on today minus the trailing upper skins which we left off so we can cable and rig the wing later. Drilled and hysoled all the brackets, polished the spars, rheemed all the slat bearing fittings, bolted up the fuel tank rails, flap return spring attachment. We set the fuel rails so we can later add a 1/8" anti vibration bed. We laid a bead of silicone on the top of the forward spar where the leading edge makes contact, this is to solve a known vibration chaffing issue. It feels like a pretty decent first day. Sorry guys, not sure why my photos are upside down.

Keith Looking Good!
Could you take a close up of the silicone you refer to here? We laid a bead of silicone on the top of the forward spar where the leading edge makes contact, this is to solve a known vibration chaffing issue.
Thanks! Oren

Thanks for the update! It's weird, when I click on your pics, they show up in the correct orientation? It's all good. As you move along, please take pics of anything "special" that you do (ie the bead of silicone). THANKS!

Re: Alaska Superstol build
Is there an airport near your build site. I have one hour left on my 40 and I may fly there if there is a nearby airport other tha New Bern.

Hey guys, we did the other wing today. Here's a picture of the silicon on the forward spar. Wayne, Robby has a strip here at his place, he's got 500-600' roughly.

interesting, all of the photos are still upside down when I open them. Wow, you are blasting through your wings. How many hours a day? Joe B
