Bottom stringer

Post by xpflyr »

Has any builder NOT put the bottom stringer on?
Does it have an aerodynamic effect or is it there for just looks or some other reason.
I was planning on using the Grove landing gear and I don't see how you can have the stringer there and still be able to switch from nose wheel to tail wheel.
Any thoughts?? Thanks.

We installed one but I can see your point for the gear....

Thanks Dave. At least I figured right.
I'll have to wait for Troy. I know there's one in the shop fitted with the Grove.

The bottom stringer probably adds some strength if properly installed. Aerodynamics would be nearly nil either way. Looks is personal preference unless you're trying to sell it....

We have built them both ways. The bottom stringer has a aerodynamic advantage and planes with it are faster than planes without it. However the Grove gear can be used by bending it in the right places. We have one in the factory now this way. Jak

I have Grove gear on my Highlander.

I had to take the bottom stringer off and shorten the standoffs which I Didn't think about at first.

The fitting was fairly easy with a little bit of tweaking.

If you like I can send you a bunch of pictures of the operation if you like.

This is my first post so I'm a little bit computer ignorant of trying to send them on e-mail.

I have s/n 28 with 390 hours on it.
