Mark III flight characteristics

Post by PNWflyer »

Hello,
New to the forum and Kolb world. Looking very seriously at a newer Kolb Mark III Xtra but have heard mixed reviews on its handling characteristics and safety record. It has the 100HP rotax. Specifically: the low speed characteristics, landing low speed characteristics, and yaw issues. I've heard that earlier models didn't have a rudder trim but Kolb would recommend it even though it wasn't in build manual?? (rumor/true?)....now I see that more of the Mark IIIs have some form of rudder trim or permanent trim tab. Any info would be appreciated and if I could actually speak to a current or somewhat recent Mark III owner/pilot, I'd appreciate that as well. Thanks!! My mission is lower, not fast, dirt and grass are the preferred landing strips...shorter is more fun but am flexible!!:)

There's not much to trim.... and the trim changes from one person and two....
Your talking light loads.... Something a spring or bungee cord could temp relieve
The trim can be taken care of by pulling on the control CABLE instead of making some kind of mod , like a trim tab...

Don't let the little things get complicated....Put the Red Tape away.... Are you trying to talk yourself out of it ?
One thing I love about Kolbs , besides how good they fly.... Is there safety record.... Just watch the Pilot errors...Like running out of fuel.

Sometimes you just have to take the leap
and build your wings on the way down...
